Measuring Your Head

When you order a Mother Hat, I will be asking you for a head size in centimetres. If you have a a fabric measuring tape, wrap it around your head parallel to the ground, roughly 1-2 cm above the top of your ears. This should correspond with the largest part of your head. Measure several times to be sure you have the correct number, also try clenching your teeth to make the sure the measurement does not change. Take into account how you want your hat to fit. For example, if you have voluminous hair you may want to leave some room for your hat to sit comfortably without flattening you hair down to your head. I will make the final hat’s interior circumference to the exact measurement you provide me. If you don’t have a fabric measuring tape at home you can also use a string (without stretch) and then use a ruler.

That measurement is enough to get started, often when the hat is finished we will do a fitting (either in person, or over video chat) to make sure that it is sitting perfectly on your head.

Picking a style

During a consult, we can discuss potential styles and colours you would like in your hat. You can have as much or as little say in this process as you would like. Inspiration photos are welcome. It can be examples of hats you appreciate, or anything that illustrates your own personal style. Things to consider before we speak: brim width, brim shape (flat, single curve, double curve, upturned), and crown shapes. Examples of crown shapes are shown below…
